iStorage FAQs

Q:

IS iSTORAGE SECURE?

A:

With Iomega® iStorage™ you can be sure your intellectual property is safe. iStorage protects your data with the strongest commercial encryption methods available. These same methods are used by U.S. government agencies, banks and other institutions that put a high value on data and its security. We also have firewall protection, redundant backup and optional strong factor authentication. All transmitted data is encrypted in industry-leading SSL, 128-bit algorithmic code. Your data is protected by virtually impassable firewall technology and monitored by a dedicated security team. iStorage features a redundant storage system in which each encrypted file is to two physically separate storage sites and then backed up and archived. iStorage provides the option for a multi-step user authentication process, ensuring that only qualified users have access to information. Strict internal controls and policies ensure that your data is secure and accessible only by authorized users.

Q:

How much storage do I need?

A:

Many casual users have somewhere between 5GB to 10GB of crucial data.

The simplest way to determine your storage need is go to the folder on your computer where you store your data. In Windows XP, this folder is usually titled "My Documents." Right click on the folder and view Properties. The size that is displayed would be the minimum storage amount you would need to back up all of the files in the folder.

Q:

What is the WhaleMail™ Tool?

A:

iStorage WhaleMail™ Tool is the best way to share large files.

Easily share and manage large files with WhaleMail

File Sharing
Avoid those annoying file size limits of your Corporation or email account provider! In order to use file sharing, simply send an e-mail containing a link to your files stored online-not the files themselves, and you can avoid any size restrictions.

WhaleMail is easy to use

  1. In order to use file sharing, upload files to your secure iStorage Internet storage account.

  2. To send files using WhaleMail, select those files, click the Send Selected Files link, and enter your recipient's email address or access their address from your iStorage Address Book.

  3. The recipient receives a file delivery notification email, which includes a link to the file download site. By following the link, the recipient can view or download the files you have sent. For your security, each link expires after 14 days, or five downloads -- whichever comes first.

  4. You can confirm delivery status of your files by viewing the Recipient Downloads File page, where times and dates of downloads are logged.

Q:

WILL iSTORAGE AUTOMATICALLY BACK UP MY FILES OR DO I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING?

A:

When you setup your iStorage account, you can download a backup client that allows you to select what files you want to backup to your iStorage account. Once you select the files and set the schedule, iStorage will do the rest.

The first time the backup utility runs, it will put all of the selected files in your iStorage account. After that, it will watch your computer and anytime a file changes, it will put an updated copy of that file in your iStorage account based on the schedule you select. It will also look for all new files similar to those you have selected and will put them in your istorage account on the schedule you select.

  2. Click the Upload button from the left hand column of buttons. You will see a screen with nine blank fields.

  3. Use the Browse option to search your computer for the files you wish to upload.
